20 Ways to Maintain a Healthy Level of Insanity…

August 29, 2006 · 2 Comments

(or things to do for the heck of it…)

1. At lunch time, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down.

2. Page yourself over the intercom. Don’t disguise your voice.

3. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.

4. Put your garbage can on your desk and label it “Inbox.”

5. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.

6. In the memo field of all your checks, write “for smuggling diamonds”

7. Finish all your sentences with “in accordance with The Prophecy.”

8. Don’t use any punctuation

9. As often as possible, skip rather than walk.

10. Order a diet water whenever you go out to eat, with a serious face.

11. Specify that your drive-through order is “to go.”

12. Sing along at the opera.

13. Go to a poetry recital and ask why the poems don’t rhyme.

14. Put mosquito netting around your work area and play tropical sounds all day.

15. Five days in advance, tell your friends you can’t attend their party because you’re not in the mood.

16. Have your co-workers address you by your wrestling name, Rock Bottom.

17. When the money comes out the ATM, scream “I won!, I won!”

18. When leaving the Zoo, start running towards the parking lot, yelling “run for your lives, they’re loose!!”

19. Tell your children over dinner, “due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go.”

20. And the final way to keep a healthy level of insanity…….be a parent!!!!

Something Wicked this way comes…

August 27, 2006 · 2 Comments

I got a chance to see Wicked not once but twice over the past week – what a great piece of musical theater. I love the idea of the back story behind the Wizard of Oz. An imaginative idea that really makes the whole play a great deal of fun to watch.

Part of me is feeling guilty though…out of multiple reasons (but really just pure selfishness), I denied by 7 year old the opportunity to see the play and I went instead (again). My excuses were several – she’d be restless with a 3-hour play, she’d ask tons of questions with the person she would have gone with (her beloved aunt), it’s a school night, she might get scared with some of the scenes…

But it ended up…I wanted to see it and I wanted my sis to enjoy it as well…

So, meanwhile, as I leave to watch the play, my daughter is sad, my little boy was running a fever, and my beloved husband was feeling a bit under the weather…and I’m waltzing out of the door with my “goodbye!”s….sigh…I owe my family something big this week…

…ah…No One Mourns the Wicked…out

Liza with a Zzzzzz….

August 2, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Good God almighty!!! What did my sister do to my child when she was up staying at her place last week?

Nonstop – I mean nonstop, we’ve been listening to “Liza with a Z” – a concert that Liza Minnelli gave some time in the early ’70s. My daughter absolutely loves the music – and I used to really like it to. It had been awhile since I had heard it, but I remember listening to it and really enjoying it…

But now??? Now??? Oh, my gosh – Liza, sweetie….there’s enough vibrato in this woman’s voice, that you could drive a truck through it! Shades of Ethel Merman! And some of the music is really 70s – I mean really…70s….disco was king…you can almost here the thump of Studio 54 in the background.

Next thing you know, my daughter will want me to buy her a red vinyl halter dress with fishnet stockings…

Thanks, Erin….you are a pal….oh, by the way, Jamie wants the DVD of the concert for her birthday.

…out (ringin’ them bells)
